Rae becomes Roy

Roy has a dream, to create a world “as far from this depressing asylum as possible. A world like his childhood.” For him, this world exists in Mozart’s music, Cosi fan Tutte.

Roy is determined to produce this opera within the walls, and with the patients, of the mental institution where he has lived for six years. He has bipolar disorder, among other diagnoses, and swings like a pendulum according to the ups and downs of the production’s status. He is hindered by the many quirks of his fellow cast members and by a wet behind the ears director, whom he is determined to train up, or replace. No one, not even himself, will stand in his way.

Roy is me (“Obscure” Rae), as well as bits from almost every theater person I have ever known. Driven by his vision, determined to conquer every obstacle, quick to find solutions for every problem that fate puts in his way, as he works single-mindedly to make his dream come true.

I hope you’ll join us for this uproariously funny and profound production. I love this show almost as much as Roy loves Cosi, and would love to feed off your energy as I play this gender-bent role.

Join us for Cosi, Fridays and Saturdays April 17, 18, 24 & 25 at 7:30 pm; Sundays April 19 & 26 at 3:00 pm.
